THE INVISIBLE HELPERS 'THE WIND':
In Robin McKinley's version titled 'Beauty', Beauty has been at the castle only for a couple of days when she begins to hear voices. After brushing them off, she begins to listen more carefully and realises that the voices are in fact two women- Bessie and Lydia, invisible servants within the Beasts castle. Beauty pretends that she cannot hear them talking about her even though she can.
Bessie and Lydia help Beauty to make decisions within the castle about things ranging from her choice of clothing throughout the day and at dinner time, to her relationship with the Beast. Beauty often gets frustrated with the 'enchanted objects' within the castle, and does not like to be dressed up and made into a 'doll'. Although occasionally frustrating, Beauty realises that the 'wind'- Bessie and Lydia, only want whats best for Beauty and she excepts them and is thankful for their advise and company.
