Based on the classic French fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast tells the story of Belle: an intelligent young woman scorned by her townspeople for being a bookworm. Taken with her, the Beast agrees to release Belle's father if she agrees to stay with him forever. Initially repulsed, Belle soon finds much to appreciate in the Beast's servants- a clock, a teapot, and a candlestick. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST AND OTHER TALES - WALTER CRANE (1982)
The primary focus/theme of Crane’s version of Beauty and the Beast is on Beauty and her sacrifice to save her fathers life in exchange for hers. The story discusses jealously from her sisters and their disapproval of her happiness and success at the castle. It little mentions her ‘helpers’ within the castle; only mentioning monkeys and birds extremely briefly.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST - JAN BRETT (1989)
Beauty and the Beast is a retelling of the classic fairy tale with the young girl named Beauty releasing a handsome prince from a spell by agreeing to marry him despite his ugly beastly appearance. This version retains the mystery, suspense, and romance of the classic tale. The author incorporates some changes to make the servants be different animals whilst also portraying the Beast as a warthog. The moral about people trusting too much to appearances is made clear. The story also reveals the power of love and the emptiness of pursuing wealth above all else.
